In November 1993 I was for the second time in Nepal and went on the Mount Everest trek. With a small plane I flew from Kathmandu to Lukla. There I hired a guide and went to Namche Bazar. After a short acclimatization we continued for Gokyo. The view of the surrounding mountains from Gokyo Ri, which I climbed twice, once in the morning and once in the evening to capture the "right" light, was fantastic. For the first time I could see the Mount Everest on the horizon. The next day, we crossed the Cho La Pass and walked to Lobuche and Gorak Shep. Early in the morning we climbed the Kala Pattar (5545 m) the highest point on earth I ever reached. From the summit, we enjoyed a breathtaking panoramic view of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and all the other surrounding peaks.
